The popularity of cork flooring has grown over the years, but so has the confusion regarding where it should be used.  It’s soft underfoot and comes in various colors, textures, and patterns, but is it a good idea to use it in kitchens and bathrooms?

YES! Cork is naturally fire and moisture-resistant and has been used for flooring for over 100 years!  Just like any other flooring material, what’s underneath the surface matters.  If you want to install cork flooring in a kitchen or bathroom, an engineered cork floor is the way to go!  Just like an engineered hardwood, there is an engineered composite core that makes the cork flooring resistant to water absorption and more durable than non-engineered cork flooring.

Cork flooring is good for the environment and the home!  It can be harvested every 7 to 10 years without damaging the tree it comes from, is often made from recycled bottle corks, and is biodegradable (as long as it doesn’t have a vinyl backing).   When used as flooring, it is antimicrobial, antistatic, and non-toxic.  If you suffer from severe allergies, cork may be one of the best flooring options to keep you breathing easy
