This was a well-loved kitchen that hadn’t been touched in ages, and was in need of just a little updating to bring it back to life. The homeowner loves the outdoors and has beautiful greenery outside every window, so she wanted the kitchen to feel connected to nature, and also wanted to maintain some of the original character, so we saved the pine cabinets on the window wall, and tied in other wood elements with the new wood flooring and the butcher block countertop on the opposite wall. Soft white cabinets brighten up the space and the glossy green glazed subway tile make the kitchen feel even more a part of the outdoors the homeowner loves.

We only made minor changes to the plan, which consisted mostly of replacing a large window in the nook area with french doors and a new deck landing with steps, new cabinets that offered a lot more storage, including plenty of pantry storage, and a larger sink. We kept the appliances where they were, removed the dropped headers/beams and replaced them with flush headers that created a nice flat ceiling throughout the kitchen, and updated the materials/finishes.

I love how we took a simple kitchen and kept the simplicity, re-used some of the original cabinets, and added some fun elements with the butcher block top and glazed subway tile.
