Design Inspiration: If You Want Classic Tile That's Not 'Subway Tile'

Get Inspired by these unique tile options - imagine them in your own space!

Check out some different shapes! I’ll be the first to say that I love a good subway tile with contrasting grout, but I do think there are some lesser-explored options that you may fall in love with - and hey, maybe add a little interest to your kitchen backsplash or shower walls!

The one question that I get asked when looking at different shapes is if I think they’re too ‘trendy’ or will look dated in 5 or 10 years, and when I look into my crystal ball, I see styles changing, yes, it’s inevitable (think about what you wore in the ‘80s!), but when you pick something that speaks to you, that you really love, I’m pretty sure you’re still going to love it in 5 or 10 years. After all, isn’t that the beauty of making your space your own?

Maybe you’re not ready to commit to the scallop shape or the geometry of the cube pattern, so what about something that’s a spin on the subway look, like these elongated diamond tiles or the raised pattern on the larger rectangle tiles (which can be installed in a subway pattern)?

Maybe subway tile is still your jam, and that’s great! There are still plenty of options to pick from - from glass tile to a geode style… I am dying to use this somewhere! Do any of these appeal to you? If so, where would you use them? Let me know in the comments below!
