From Uninspired Oak to Inspiring Black + White: A Total Remodel
Get ready to be inspired by this total remodel!
We may have kept the range, the sink, and the windows in the same locations, but everything else changed in this large kitchen! A family of four felt like they had a decent amount of space to work with, but really desired a kitchen island where they could gather, eat, cook, and entertain. The kitchen was long and narrow, and they weren’t sure if they could get one in, but were willing to move walls to make it happen. So, move walls we did!
This was a large project that was so much more than a kitchen remodel (though the kitchen was by far my favorite part of the project!), which required structural engineering for the dining room wall that we moved back to accommodate an eat-in island, we re-located the furnace to the attic so we could move the fridge and double ovens, we created more of a formal entry, and designed a killer under-stair pantry, that looked like cabinetry, but was actually wood framed walls, covered in cabinet panels to look like the rest of the kitchen.
New flooring was carried throughout the downstairs area and up the staircase; there were two fireplaces (one in the family room and one in the living room) that also got a makeover and re-finished a built-in entertainment center in the family room. In addition, all new lighting was installed throughout the downstairs, and all the walls and ceilings received a fresh coat of paint.
One of my favorite components of this project was the under-stair pantry area - a lot of thought, planning, and detail coordination went into making this happen and having a seamless transition with the rest of the kitchen cabinetry. What do you like best about the changes we made? Comment below!
