Moody Makeover: A Dramatic Kitchen and Bath Remodel
What do you get when you mix live edge wood countertops, black cabinets, and a brass slipper tub? A moody makeover! Black Dura Supreme Cabinets set the tone for a dramatic kitchen topped with a stunning black slab with gold and white veining and brass hardware - the white walls and ceiling keep it fresh, and the open black metal shelving gives a sense of openness. The bathrooms have a moody vibe with dark wall colors, dark tile, concrete top mount sinks, and statement-making brass fixtures!
Project Details: This was a top-to-bottom townhome remodel, and we removed load-bearing walls and a fireplace to create an open kitchen. We had to design the island around a structural post that needed to stay in place to support the loft area above the kitchen. The loft area created a flat 8’-0” ceiling in the original kitchen, and the rest of the ceilings were vaulted, so the kitchen was designed to minimize the effect of the change in ceiling height, so we had a custom metal shelving unit built instead of wall cabinets that typically finish to a flat ceiling. This home features black kitchen cabinets from Dura Supreme, stone countertops, glossy subway tile, brass fixtures, a GE Cafe range, and a vintage-inspired Big Chill fridge. There are luxury vinyl plank floors throughout the home, and the bathrooms feature live edge wood countertops, top mount concrete trough sinks, porcelain tile floors, mosaic tile shower walls, brass plumbing fixtures, lighting, and mirrors - including a brass tub!
